Making the online world safer for children

Hi, I’m Jessica Chalmers – but you can call me Jess. I’m a child online safety expert, educator and mum of two.

I help parents, schools and organisations make sense of the online world children are growing up in – from social media, gaming and smartphones to AI, algorithms and everything in between.

I know how overwhelming it can feel. The technology changes constantly, the headlines can be terrifying and there’s always someone telling you that you’re doing it wrong.

My approach is different. Practical, realistic and never judgemental. I cut through the noise and give parents and children the knowledge and confidence they need to navigate the online world safely.

Where it all began

I didn’t set out to become a child online safety expert. I was working in social media while raising my two young children, and I loved the opportunities the online world could offer.

But as a mum, I was also becoming increasingly aware of the other side of it. I wanted to understand the impact technology and social media could have on children – and, more importantly, what parents could actually do to help keep them safe.

That curiosity became something much bigger. I began researching, training and learning everything I could about child online safety – and eventually turned that knowledge into the work I do today.

What began as a personal mission became my career.

Today I work with schools, parents and organisations across the UK, and I’m regularly invited onto TV, radio and into the press to help make sense of the latest online safety issues.

My belief is simple: an educated child is the best filter.
